2014 in books

30 December, 2014

A few months into this year, when I had a whopping two read books under my belt, I remember thinking about the previous year and how much reading I had been able to do.  And then The Child woke from her nap and life sped up just a little bit.  2014 found me reading just as much as in 2013, but the overwhelming majority of the books read featured thick cardboard pages and only a short phrase or two on each page.

The Child LOVES books and being read to, and honestly, I get more joy in seeing that than I do in reading most books, even if it means reading Octopus Opposites for the hundredth time this week.

I have one of these books memorized.

I have one of these books memorized.

I managed to read a few books for my own growth and entertainment this year too.

Here is 2014 in books:

1) Insurgent (Veronica Roth)

2) The Kitchen House (Kathleen Grissom)

3) The Silver Star (Jeannette Walls)

4) Allegiant (Veronica Roth)

5) Into the Wild (Jon Krakauer)*

6) The Storyteller (Jodi Picoult)

7) Girls of Riyadh (Rajaa Al-Sanea)

8) Our Babies, Ourselves: How Biology and Culture Shape the Way We Parent (Meredith Small)

9) Guts: The True Stories Behind Hatchet and the Brian Books (Gary Paulsen)

10) Guide to Owning a Cornish Rex Cat (Greta Huls)

11) The Backyard Chickens Handbook: What You Need to Know to Raise Backyard Chickens (M. Anderson)

12) Room (Emma Donoghue)

13) Playing for the Commandant (Suzy Zail)

14) Sin in the Second City: Madams, Ministers, Playboys, and the Battle for America’s Soul (Karen Abbott)

15) Lost in Shangri-La (Mitchell Zuckoff)

* I also discovered the audiobooks are a GREAT wayto be able to read while going for a walk with The Child.  Exercise for me, plus entertainment for us both!
