language learning resource: Freerice

9 October, 2014

I don’t think I’ve ever met a student who did not like to play games.  And regardless of how dedicated one is to learning a language, we all need to take time to relax a little and have some fun.

There are a number of language learning games out there, but my favorite one is Freerice.  In addition to helping the player improve English vocabulary or grammar skills, ten grains of rice are donated through the World Food Programme for each correct response given while playing the game.  Who can argue with reinforcing language learning while having fun *and* helping people in need?

I haven’t used this resource in my classroom, but I do like to make students aware of the site for use in their free time.
